Pass Summit 2019 starts today in Seattle. Day 1 Keynote brings us a lot of news for all things in the Data Platform environment. For the first time this year Pass has introduced Learning Pathways to assist everyone in learning in a dedicated stream. So how is the best way to learn? Well that depends on what is best for you. But one of the easiest and best ways is your networking and expand your network.

  • SQL Server on Edge (less than 300 mb footprint) is now GA
  • 5 Million Azure SQL Databases running currently
  • Accelerated Database Recovery (ADR)
  • Azure SQL Database Serverless now GA
  • Hyperscale in the Cloud
  • PostgreSQL Hyperscale is now GA
  • Azure data services anywhere with Azure ARC
  • Azure Synapse Analytics
  • Azure Data Share is now GA
  • Azure Data Flows in Azure Data Factory is now GA
  • Public preview availability of wrangling data flows

SQL Server on edge allows you to install SQL Server on any ARM device and it allows you to collect and process data prior to sending back through to a larger instance of SQL Server such as Azure SQL DB or Big Data Clusters where you can undertake all of your Analytics or Machine learning to make the most of your data to assist in critical business decisions.

 

SandDance which is available as an extension in Azure Data Studio allows you to easily visualize the data you are working on to assist in your analysis for your decision making.

The use of Azure Data Studio Notebooks for Data Scientists is a fantastic tool allowing the analytics and sharing between colleagues.

 

ADR changes the support world for SQL Server with the ability to recover from an issue in lightning fast time compare to previous versions of SQL Server.

Azure SQL Database Serverless provides the ability for:

  • On-Demand flexible scale
  • Cost-effective
  • Fully managed AI

HyperScale in the cloud allows up to 2400 cores and benchmarked at 200 TB and 30 readable replicas. This is a game changer for the VLDB environments.

Azure Synapse Analytics is the joining of Azure Data Warehouse and Azure Data Lake to provide:

  • Limitless scale
  • Powerful insights
  • Unified experience
  • Unmatched security
