Windows Server Failover Clustering – Windows Server 2012 R2 is an introductory level course designed to provide an End-to-End knowledge of Windows Server Failover Clustering tailored for the SQL Server DBA.
This 1-day course is instructor led with hands on lab sessions taking you through the following modules:
Course Outline
MODULE 1: Introduction to Clustering
This module will provide an introduction to Windows Server Failover Clustering with Microsoft SQL Server in mind to get an understanding of:
- What is Clustering
- Clustering History
- Quorum Models
- Clustering Pre-requisites
- Why Use Clustering
- SQL Server Installation
MODULE 2: Preparing Cluster Nodes
To be able to successfully build a Windows Server Failover Cluster for use with SQL Server the preparation of the the environment is extremely important. This module takes you through the steps to be undertaken to prepare for a successful build and implementation of a Windows Server Failover Cluster specific for SQL Server.
MODULE 4: Building a Windows Server Failover Cluster
Following on from the previous module we are now able to undertake the build of the Windows Server Failover Cluster and look at but not limited to the following:
- Cluster Validation
- Cluster Storage
- Adding and Removing Cluster Nodes
MODULE 5: Building a Failover Clustered Instance
For SQL Server to utilise a Windows Server Failover cluster, two options are available. Failover Clustered Instances and AlwaysOn Availability Groups. In this module we are looking at how to install and configured a SQL Server Failover Clustered Instance.
MODULE 6: Clustering and the Cloud
With things rapidly changing, we need to know how Windows Server Failover Clustering works in a Hybrid or Cloud environment. In this module we will look at both scenarios.
